Church Growth

The growth of the church is hindered:

  1. When we stay away from the services,
  2. gossip about others,
  3. are indifferent to the work of the church,
  4. refuse to help when we are called on,
  5. complain to outsiders that we don't agree with the leaders' plans for the church,
  6. criticize everybody and anything that is done for the growth of the church,
  7. wear our feelings on our sleeves so when someone offends us, we can be angry,
  8. go around pouting,
  9. condemn the preacher for preaching the truth,
  10. live ungodly lives.

A congregation is almost certain to grow when:

  1. 1. each member has a deep concern for the lost,
  2. each member enters into the worship service with enthusiasm,
  3. each member is interested in an aggressive Bible School,
  4. each Bible class teacher is interested in improving his/her ability to teach more effectively,
  5. Each elder and deacon is dedicated to the work of the Lord,
  6. The preacher preaches God's Word with love and concern for the souls of men,
  7. Each member is personally involved in the Lord's work,
  8. each member lets brotherly love express itself to every other member - his own brotherly love!

Let's think seriously about the above negative versus positive attitudes and strive to apply the positive attitudes to ourselves.

Remember the Houghtons who are getting settled in London and going to work.  Also Charles Stelding reports that he, Ashley and Jenny Francis are working "like mad" in Leipzig with their Bible studies in English.

SYMPATHY

Our sympathy to the family of Pauline Rushing who passed away last Monday evening which was her 91st birthday.  A graveside service was held Thursday.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

VBS is here!!!  As you read this, VBS is only a few short hours away.  We have prayed for God's reign in this exciting outreach event, and I hope that you will want to be involved as we share the Gospel with children and families.

  • Please plan to come this evening at 5:00 p.m. to a special Prayer Worship Service specifically focused on VBS and those who will be reached for Jesus.
  • Not only does VBS have fun activities for kids, but there is also a class designed specifically for you - an adult.  Please plan to involve yourself in our special series "Growing a Godly Family" taught by Shawn Ridge and Rusty McClen from Texas Family Institute.
  • And a special thanks goes to everyone who has helped and is helping with making VBS a God-glorifying event.  Your involvement makes a difference!

Cookie Baggers!  Plan to meet at 4 o'clock this afternoon in the fellowship hall to prepare sacks.  Any questions?  See Mary Middleton.

Volunteers are needed to learn about the working of the PA system during services.  Please see Glenn Bailey.

If you would like to help with the Summer Camp Scholarship Fund for the youth to attend Pine Springs in July, please give your donations to Brad Sullivan or Barbara Stelding.  Make checks payable to Woodlawn Church of Christ and mark the memo "camp scholarships."  The crocheted dishrags in the foyer are yours for a donation of $1 each.  These funds also go to the summer camp youth scholarships.

Because of VBS, the Young's Tuesday night Adult Bible Study will meet next on the fourth Tuesday, June 22.

Sonny leaves big shoes to fill in the preaching of God's word.  While he and Eunice are on a mission trip to Africa for seven weeks this summer, the present preaching schedule is:

  • July 11 -- Glenn Bailey
  • July 18 -- Dwayne Hilty

On Wednesday nights during July and August, the adult classes will all combine for a special series on the Beatitudes in Matthew 5:1-12.
