God Will Take Care of Us
Have you ever been involved in something that worked really well? Maybe you were a part of something that fell into place unexpectedly. You think, wow, how did that happen? Read as I repeat a story given to me just this Friday morning by one of our own beloved members.
A young boy responded to his Father asking him if he wanted to go into town with him by eagerly jumping into a 1941 baby blue Club Coupe. They arrived at a grocery store in a small town north of here for the boy to see his Father carrying out a small 15-cent sack of flour. This was unusual for the boy since they usually bought a larger 25 or 50 pound sack. The Father got into the car and pitched his snapped bi-fold wallet in the boys lap and said, “Look in there and tell me what you see.” The boy reluctantly looked in his Father’s wallet to see nothing at first, but looked further at his Father’s encouragement to find a dime and a penny. The Father said, “That is all we have and I don’t know what we will do, but the Bible says that God will take care of us and he will have to.” They went back to their country farm with a 15-cent sack of flour on a prayer of faith.
Difficult times happen to all us and we do not always have control, but God promises to watch over us and tells us “not to worry”. We take responsibility for our family, and ourselves but God takes responsibility for what we need physically and for our souls if we turn to him.
An unknown truck entered this small town and stopped at a gas station asking for anyone that might have some hay. The attendant wasn’t sure, but sent the man to a small farm house. The man and boy came outside to greet the visitor in the large truck. The man looking for hay was told they only had hay from last season and did not speak well of the quality.
The farm owner and his boy sent him to the barn to look at the hay to see if he wanted it. He returned wanting the hay and offered $1.00 a bale for the hay that sold for $.85 per bale the week before. The farm owner estimated 170 bales in the barn. The man in the truck encouraged the owner to come count the bales with him, but he said, “No I trust you”.
After some time, the man returned with a loaded truck to finalize the deal. To the surprise of the owner and boy, he loaded 207 bales. The man had gathered loose hay to make up bales and took everything in the barn. He handed the boy’s Dad $207. They asked the man where he was from and he replied with a place the boy and his father never heard of before or since that time. The truck slowly made its way away from the farm, down the dusty Jones County road as the Father and his son watched in gratitude to the sky, because the Bible says, “God will take care of us.” They never saw him before and never saw him again. The boy’s name is Thurman Castleberry and his father, John.
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?"
~ Matthew 6:25-27

THANK YOU NOTE
I want to thank each and everyone of you for all the support, grace, and love you have shown to me in the past two years. I have come to love you all so much. That is why it is hard for me to let you know that I am stepping down as the secretary. I will be devoting more of my time to my family. However, my replacement will be someone you all know and love already. Carla Copher will start coming in tomorrow and my last day will be Wednesday. I will still be a part of this church and will fill in as needed. This is not a goodbye note, just a note to thank you for allowing me to serve you.
I love you,
Cherrelle Womack
