NOTHING
“Nothing” is a word with several meanings. You call someone and ask, “What are you doing?” Sometimes the response is “Nothing” which means I am bored. A child is quiet and a parent asks, “What are you doing?” The child responds quietly, “Nothing” which means I am up to something. A coworker asks “What are you going to do on your days off?” We respond “Nothing” which means you are going to avoid major projects and put your feet up. When you are asked for the fifth time “What’s for supper?” “Nothing” is the reply because you’re tired of being asked the same question over and over again. When ask “What kind of food do you have in the house?” The reply is “Nothing” which means there is some food but I do not want to fix dinner. Nothing can be used to respond to many questions in life but in our Christian life, should we use this answer to God? When God asks you at the end of time “What have you done for me?” Do we want to say “Nothing”? Do we want to tell him “There was nothing for me to do?” or “I could have done something, but I did not know anything about something, so nothing was done.” Remember when you say nothing to God, it means nothing.
Let’s remember next time when we need something; think about how much you have done for God. When you give nothing, then nothing is given in return. When nothing is all you have then it leaves your life very empty. Let’s be generous to others and to ourselves by filling our lives by doing something, anything and everything for God.
