Woodlawn “Trunk or Treat”

On October 31st 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. there will be a community contact event in the midst of traditional activities happening around our neighborhood.  Your participation and contribution is greatly needed to help us make a visible presence and impact during this special event.

NEEDED:

  • Lots, and Lots of candy, treats, etc. for distribution to neighborhood children and families as we get the opportunity to meet and greet them passing through our parking lot.
  • Willing people to be present with their vehicles to receive visitors, meet, greet, and distribute candy, treats, etc.

    We will be set up in the parking lot to make ourselves known and to be available to the community as a congregation that desires to connect with those we desire to reach in the way we are called.  There will be hot dogs for participants and visitors with an opportunity to fellowship with one another while we join in this outreach effort.  Plan to be there, but for now, just keep bringing the “goodies”.

    THERE WAS A HUGE RESPONSE LAST YEAR;
    WE EXPECT THE SAME OR BETTER THIS YEAR
    .

    PRAYER REQUESTS

    Bob Proctor is back at home recovering from surgery.

    Ethel Waldrip’s great-granddaughter, Reagan’s surgery to remove the NF2 tumor in her ear was successful!!!  She can hear and is doing well.  We need to continue to pray for a quick recovery.

    Martha Lee Hancock, will be traveling to Baylor on Tuesday to see about having a heart procedure done.  This procedure could keep her from having to have a pacemaker or heart meds.

    THANK YOU NOTES

    Dear Woodlawn Family,
    Thank you so much for the beautiful plant sent upon Pierce’s arrival.  Thanks too for all the cards, visits, prayers, and delicious food.  Your care and concern as our Christian family was overwhelming.  Thank you for being a part of this special time for us.
    Love, Loree, Jeff, & Pierce

    To the members of Woodlawn:
    The family of Jean Holzmann wants to thank you for your support and prayers during Jean's illness and passing.  The cards, food and beautiful plant were greatly appreciated and made our difficult time easier to bear.
    Thank you again,
    Sonny Holzmann Nancy and James McKelvain, Janis and W.T. Smith

    SYMPATHY

    We grieve for the family of Jean Holzmann.  Jean passed away on Saturday, October 14.  Please continue to keep Sonny in your prayers.

    Announcements

    The Thanksgiving Food Drive has begun.  We will start by taking donations of boxed stuffing and instant potatoes.

    Please share any type of photograph or story you may have about Operation Doorbell with Glenn Bailey.  Anything you can provide will be helpful.

    A correction needs to be made to Perry Scott’s birthday, it is October 12 and not October 21.  Sorry about that Perry!

    We will be hosting Life Line Screening on Thursday, October 26th. Four different health screening will be offered for people 40-years-old and older.  The screenings are performed using Doppler color flow ultrasound systems and include the following:

    • A Carotid Artery Screening - visualizes the build up of plaque in the carotid arteries, which leads to stroke.  (Up to 75% of all strokes are linked to carotid artery blockage);
    • An Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) test- looks for an enlargement in the abdominal aorta that could lead to a ruptured aortic artery.  The vast majority of people who have an aneurysm have no symptoms;
    • An Ankle Brachial Index- screens for peripheral arterial disease in the lower extremities, which is closely linked to coronary artery disease;
    • A bone density screening, which tests for the early detection of osteoporosis.
    You can pre-register be calling 1-800-407-4557.  These screenings are completely painless, non-invasive and require ten minutes or less to complete.  The cost is $35-$45 each of three for $109.
