This Little Light of Mine...

What a wonderful Fourth of July it was.  Good food, good times and a wonderful night time display of color and light.  God blesses us with good times and celebrations throughout our lives, memories that are fondly recalled later on in our lives; recollections of firecrackers, sparklers and bottle rockets bursting into the sky.  These scenes remind us of a song.  This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.  A song we sing as children and as adult Christians, should be our theme song.

In the song we will not hide it, we will not let Satan diminish it, but we will shine it for all to see.  Like the spectacular show on the 4th, everyone saw the light glow from a distance.  Some of the fireworks were small and gave out a little light.  Others were brilliant, climbing up into the sky bursting setting off a glow you could see for many miles.

We need to think about ourselves for a moment.  Are we a light that only gives off a small light then loses its fizzle, or are we a light that shines dazzling for all to see.  We need to be dazzling, but it is hard.  It is an effort all of us need to work on.  We need to shine all the time so everyone will know Christ is the source of light and he illuminates us so that all will see.

Let us work on shining our light where ever we go.  Our lights can lead others to Christ, so remember be a pane of glass and let Christ glow through you.  You will not be a fizzle but a dazzling, spectacular light that others look to in a world of darkness.

May His love shine in us always,
Karen and Kathy

Coming Soon - Camp fund-raiser for the youth!

There is a youth devotional tonight at the Ronquillo’s house in Baird.

Baker Heights Church of Christ is hosting a “No Debt No Sweat” Seminar.  It will be June 18 & 19th and free childcare is provided.  For more information, see the brochure on the bulletin board.

It’s that time again!  The Medina Children’s Home is needing to fill up their pantry again.  We have been asked to collect cereal - assorted sweet.  They will be by the week of Sept. 4 - 8.  There is a box in the foyer for your donations.

The Singing School at ACU will be held from July 16 - 21.  At the school, they train song leaders, certify worship leaders, have workshops, labs, and certify women in church music.  During the worship leaders workshop, they have a class that is “Everything the Bible Says About Music (Genesis to Revelation)”.  For more information, grab a brochure from the table in the foyer.

Operation Blue Jeans starts on July 10!
The Christian Service Center is offering a new pair of jeans, and two pairs of socks and underwear to low-income children in Abilene. Children are also given an age-appropriate children’s Bible.  We are excited about a matching grant for this year's blue jeans drive: The Dian Graves Owen Foundation will match every dollar given this summer for Operation Blue Jeans, up to $5,000.  We welcome financial gifts to help cover the costs of this program.  We also need good, used children’s clothing, backpacks and brown paper sacks with handles.
Thanks for your help!
Jim Clark, Director
