A BABY IS BORN

Recently we had a prayer of blessing for new babies and their parents.  What a joy it is to see little ones and even to hear their cries.  As new babies come into our family they bring a sense of hope, joy and expectancy to our world.

When Jesus was born the time came to present him at the temple.  Every firstborn male was to be consecrated to the Lord.  Parents brought their sons along with a sacrifice to the temple.

An old devout Jew, Simeon, "happened" upon this young couple and their baby boy.  He had been waiting expectantly for their arrival, "to see the Lord's Christ."  Simeon, prompted by the Holy Spirit, took baby Jesus and praised God for this baby.  What a holy moment.  Prophetically Simeon spoke of the significance and hope that this life would bring to the world.

When we pray for our babies, it is different.  Jesus was God in the flesh and he lived to please his Father in heaven.  Yes, even for us, the greatest joy for parents and hope for our world is when our children, like Jesus, live to please their Father in heaven.
