Thanksgiving Food, Coat, & Blanket Drive

Throughout scripture, you get the very strong sense that God is not only concerned with our spiritual health, but our physical needs as well.  When Jesus returns home to Nazareth, Luke reminds his readers specifically which scripture was being read - Isaiah 61:1-2 (Luke 4:18-19).  Luke makes a connection between the prophetic words of Isaiah that testify to the coming Messiah and the ministry of Jesus; both speak of God's ministry to those often rejected in society.

Just as powerful are the words Luke uses to describe the early church as a people who "gave to anyone as they had need" (Acts 2:45; 4:35).  The message is very blatant.  God's people are to continue the fulfillment of Isaiah 61:1-2 through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit in Christ's body.  As a church, we are the hands and feet of Jesus to a hurting world.

We have an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus to our community.  It's time for our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive on Friday, November 21, and your help is greatly needed!  This year, we will also be providing blankets for those needing warmth.  A list of food items will be in the announcements soon and boxes available in the foyer for donations.  On that Friday, Nov. 21, we'll need help with collecting food and blankets.  Together, we can be Jesus' hands and feet to our community.

Your Partner in Ministry,
Dwayne
