Love

Love bade me welcome; yet my soul drew back,
Conscious of dust and sin.
But quick-eyed Love, observing me grow slack
From my first entrance in,
Drew nearer to me, sweetly questioning,
If I lacked anything.
“A guest,” I answered, “worthy to be here.”
Love said, “You shall be he.”
“I, the unkind, ungrateful? Ah, my dear,
I cannot look on thee.”
Love took my hand, and smiling did reply,
“Who make the eyes but I?”
“Truth, Lord, but I have marred them; let my shame
Go where it doth deserve.”
“And know you not,” says Love, “who bore the blame?”
“My dear, then I will serve.”
“You must sit down,” says Love, “and taste my meat.”
So I did sit and eat.
-George Herbert (1593- 1633)

It’s so easy for us to sing about the love of God and discuss it in Bible classes, and still not really and truly understand just how much the mighty Creator of the Universe Loves us, and how we appear in the face of that great Love. This morning I invite you to read this poem, and as you do, put yourself in the place of the author. Rest in the peace we have through our Lord Jesus Christ, let the Love of God grip your heart and mind, intellect and emotion, and know in your soul that you are Loved.

"In this is Love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins."
- I John 4:10

-David Taylor

    A Message from the Hiltys

    Dear Woodlawn Family…

On behalf of the Cascade Hills team, we want to thank everyone for lifting us up in prayer as the Cascade Hills Church of Christ had our grand opening as a new church in Salem, Oregon!  Romans 4:17 speaks of God as the one who "calls things that are not as though they were" and that's exactly what God has done in our midst.  God used and empowered our new community of faith as we welcomed 80 people on opening day to our morning worship encounter!  Of the 80 people that came, 25 were kids!  We worshipped together and enjoyed a big BBQ afterward to celebrate the birth of this new church.  Since then, our weeks have been filled with new people coming to worship every week and a number of pre-Christians who are eager to learn more about Jesus and get involved in the life of Cascade Hills.

So...thanks again for your prayers, support, and encouragement.  God is doing great things in our midst.

    Dwayne Hilty
