NEWS AND VIEWS FROM THE ELDERS

Last autumn the elders visited with the newly appointed deacons and assigned them ministries to fulfill.  We assessed talents and skills and made assignments based upon those preliminary assessments.  We anticipated that over time that it might be necessary to reassign some of the deacon’s roles.  The elders watched carefully the performance of all the deacons, and came to realize that some had talents that, perhaps, would be better suited for different ministries than assigned.  We approached three deacons, Chad Longley, Al Watkins, and Troy Gailey, with the possibility of swapping and redefining their ministries.  As of Sunday, August 24, the final conversations had occurred and the elders are prepared to announce that Chad Longley will now be the deacon over the preschool through 6th grade children’s ministry; Al Watkins will be deacon over the 7th through 12th grade and University ministry; and Troy Gailey will be deacon over Technology, including the audio/video system and internet website.  He also is to take a more active role in the Song leader/service ministry.

In conjunction with the switched roles, Troy was given a charge by the elders to assess the audio/video system needs of the congregation and to move swiftly to make modifications to improve performance by the time Friend’s Sunday arrives.  The elders respectfully request that the congregation be patient and cooperative with the process, because there will probably be some experimentation with different pieces of audio/video equipment, and perhaps, even some experimental configurations of the seating arrangements to best accommodate the audio/video equipment and to enhance its performance.

On a different note, the elders, for the first time in a number of years, are asking for contributions to the Family Services Account.  This account is designed for those of the church family who need temporary financial assistance.  Due to various circumstances, it has become almost depleted.  If you have it within your heart to assist, and are financially able, please place your donations in the little wooden box in the foyer or give them to Barbara or one of the elders.  The elders thank you in advance for your generous and benevolent spirit.

Thanks,
Glenn Bailey

THANK YOU NOTES

To the congregation at Woodlawn,
Thank you so much for the calls, flowers, visits, food and your many prayers.  Thanks to John & Charlene Fort and Bart & Jaylene Crisman for attending the funeral of my dad.  You’re all special to Harold and me.  My daddy was always my Darling Daddy.  We will miss him.  Harold says to keep praying for his health.
Love you all & miss you,
Harold and Helen Morgan

Dear Woodlawn family,

Once again, you, my Woodlawn family, have shown your love.  I could have never made it through these past few weeks without your help.  How "beautiful are the feet that serve."  Thank you, each and every one for making my life easier.
Love, Betty Kennamer

My thanks to the brethren with the most beautiful hearts of anyone.  Thank you for the convenience of a car (Crismans), a warm cozy shelter (Beth) and so many great meals.
