Involvement Ministry Message

Perhaps this sounds like a silly question, but have you ever lost something?  Not just something insignificant or petty, but something very valuable to you.  I recall a time when I "misplaced" my wallet.  Just how dependent was I on the portable piece of cow leather that contained a bunch of plastic cards?  I frantically searched everywhere from my car to my closet, and found nothing.  My moment of triumph finally came when I happened to see it in a trash can at school.  I suppose someone found it, grabbed what little cash I had, and dumped it.

For some reason, the thought of losing money or valuables seems to resonate with us.  I suppose the same was true for those tax collectors and “sinners” who gathered around Jesus in Luke 15.  Jesus could have explained God’s love for the lost in a number of ways, but I find it interesting that one of his choices was the idea of a woman losing some money.  Her moment of triumph came when she swept the whole house (another message I need to hear) and ended in rejoicing.

Question.  When was the last time you frantically “swept” Abilene for somebody who was "lost"?  How valuable is another human being in God’s eyes?  Our mission to become an evangelistic faith community begins with our prayerful zeal to let others know what Christ has done to move us from the ranks of the lost to those who are found.

To the ladies’ Bible class and all my Christian sisters and brothers: God bless you for your warm expressions of love and kindness toward me during my illness.  You are the embodiment of Christ and His heavenly father.  Also, thank you so much for your mentioning of me in your prayers.

Give thanks for Dorothy Minor’s great-grandson, Jason Landry, born last Monday to Jamie and Jason West. Grandparents are Donna and Bill Roberts (and the proud uncle is Joey Roberts).

Plans are for Mandy Crisman to have a C-section on Tuesday.  Pray that all goes well with Mandy and baby James (and Kern).

Announcement

HAPPY 93rd BIRTHDAY, THURA!
It’s so nice to have Thura Piedmont "back home" for a visit - and especially today, which is her birthday!  Thura, we wish you more good years of faithful service to your Lord. You are quite an example to us all!

NO EXCUSES
The next time you feel like God can't use you, just remember ... ABRAHAM was too old.  ISAAC was a daydreamer.  JACOB was a liar.  LEAH was ugly.  JOSEPH was abused.  MOSES had a stuttering problem.  GIDEON was afraid.  SAMSON had long hair, and was a womanizer!  RAHAB was a prostitute!  JEREMIAH and TIMOTHY were too young.  DAVID had an affair and was a murderer.  JONAH ran from God.  NAOMI was a widow.  JOB went bankrupt.  JOHN the Baptist ate bugs.  PETER denied Christ.  The Disciples fell asleep while praying.  MARTHA worried about everything.  MARY MAGDALENE was, well, you know ...  The SAMARITAN WOMAN was divorced ... more than once!  ZACCHEUS was too small.  PAUL was too religious.  TIMOTHY had an ulcer ... AND LAZARUS WAS DEAD! ... no more excuses now.  God's waiting to use your full potential.
