Memorial
Memorial Day weekend is a great weekend for many people. Many do not have to work on Monday and take an extended weekend. This is a day set aside as a remembrance of all who have fought to keep our country free. We see families out celebrating around a BBQ pit and many American flags flying. It is good that we have a day set aside to be a memorial.
As Christian people we observe a memorial more often than most. We meet on a weekly basis to remember what has been sacrificed for our freedom. There was a song that was popular a few years back and is still pretty popular today called “God Bless the U.S.A.” You’ve probably heard it. A line from that song states: “ And I won’t forget the men that died to give that right to me.” It is talking of the right to be free and the men who died to give us that here in our country.
Some groups changed to wording of that song to say “I won’t forget the MAN who died.” Let’s not forget that Jesus died for our sins to be forgiven. On most communion tables I’ve seen are the engraved words: “This do in remembrance of me.” Let’s meet on Sunday and observe a memorial and keep in remembrance all that has been done for us, and let us live everyday so that people can see that we are Christians.
Just as many people will display American flags on Memorial Day, let us proudly display daily that we are part of God’s holy family, Christians!
