Sonny Side Up!

INTERVIEWING FOR A JOB
This past week I have spent many hours interviewing individuals who are applying for a job in my office.  It is quite a challenge to present an honest and fair description of the job.  One always hopes they will still be interested after hearing about all the responsibilities.

I began to think, what if we had to interview for becoming a disciple?  Would the description of the Lord scare us away?  In the Beatitudes he used the words "insult you," "persecute you."  Are those expectations for a disciple?  He also asks for faithfulness.  Jesus tells us, if we put our "hand to the plow, and look back" we are not fit for this service.  Then, he also said that we need to take up our cross daily to be his disciple.  Wow!  Did we know what we signed on for?  Do we still want the job?

What we need to realize is that, yes, there are responsibilities.  We cannot be disciples without learning the job.  But, what he asks of us is nothing more than he was also willing to give.  When we experience the difficult side of discipleship, remember the blessed side of discipleship as well.  "Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven."  "I will be with you always."

When we "applied for the job," did we only want to receive the benefits or have we also signed up for the difficult work of being disciples?  I hope I find someone for the job in my office.  I hope the Lord finds many of us who want to be true disciples.

Thanks

To the Woodlawn church,
Your expression of sympathy through the memorial gift to Medina Children's Home is sincerely appreciated.      Family of Betty Hughes (Wylene Norman's sister)

It is wonderful, especially in times like these, to have a loving church family to lean on.  You provided food, flowers, loving caring arms of comfort and wonderful memories.  Thank you for all the cards and expressions of love.  On behalf of the Landis families, Paul Landis, Jr, Marsha Exum, Donald Landis, and Ronald, Karen, Tiffany and Ronny Landis

Our family would like to thank you for your prayers and expressions of sympathy during our loss.  Your care and concern mean so much to us.  Please continue to keep us in your prayers.  In Christian Love, The Ben Black Family

Announcements

The Pacesetters will take the church vans to Fredericksburg on Tuesday, April 22, leaving at 6 a.m. and return that evening.  You pay for your meals.  Sign up in the foyer.

Please return your Ministry Response Sheets by Wednesday night.

The truck from Medina Children's Home picked up 93 bottles of apple juice on Tuesday.  Several bottles were gallons, so we more than met our goal, and they are very grateful.

University students and young adults!  The 2003 Spring Retreat is quickly approaching.  Dates are Friday, April 11 to Sunday, April 13.  Make sure to sign-up and reserve your place.  You won't want to miss out.

We will be providing a meal after services next Sunday evening for the young people of the LCU chorus.  Please sign up in the foyer if you are willing to help provide sandwiches, chips or cookies for this meal.  We need enough food for 50 people.

HELP! LTC youth need service projects during the next two weeks.  If you have things that they can help with, please contact Elijah, Amy, Phyllis Sparks or call the church office.  (light yard work or house chores, climbing to change bulbs or set clocks, trash hauled away, etc.)

IT'S A BOY! Congratulations to the Fosters and Mabrys who are proud grandparents of a boy, Collin McGuyer, born April 1 weighing 6 lb. 10 oz. and 19 inches long.  Parents are Kinney and Theressa Mabry of Snyder.

LCU PRAISE CHOIR - APRIL 13
The Lubbock Christian University Praise Chorus will conduct the evening worship here at Woodlawn next Sunday at 5 p.m. It will present a "sermon in song" designed to spiritually uplift and encourage us.  A wide variety of a cappella music will be presented including choral anthems, hymn arrangements, Christian contemporary songs, and traditional spirituals, all tied together with scripture readings and other devotional thoughts in such a way that a theme or "sermon" is presented throughout the program.  Focusing on the death and resurrection of Jesus, the program will also incorporate some congregational singing.  (Our own Chloe Strickland will be here as well as several others from the Abilene area.)
Invite your friends and neighbors!
