Did You Know?
You have heard it said, "With knowledge, comes responsibility". We have related this saying with information we receive that empowers us to do something other than what we were capable before we knew. We are bombarded with information everyday through many sources and media. We are a people that want to know, so we can do or repeat to empower another with knowledge. I am willing to say that most information is more valuable than we attribute. We have so much information to facilitate everyday that I believe we have difficulty understanding that some information is more important. It is obvious that some information is not edifying to the body of Christ or the person that it is about and must be handled with respect.
Ephesians 4:29 gives us a scriptural reference that we must use in discerning our responsibility that comes with knowledge. "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." This scripture is encapsulated with other Words from God that teach us to guard our heart’s intention to be kind and compassionate even in the midst of anger and pride. We are warned in other parts of the Bible to watch what comes out of our mouths (Matt. 12:34, 15:11, James 3) by looking at the heart. This is imperative in the body of Christ, but this article is not about gossip and anonymity.
This article is about the responsibility we as Christians have with our knowledge of Christ crucified. With this knowledge comes an enormous power to live out our faith in service, adhere to God’s Word, be a forgiven people, and most of all: Tell It! It is hard to keep a secret, but this is not a secret that must be kept, but exploited, according to scripture, in all opportunities to those in need and want a difference in their lives. Do not let the Good News be a secret. It is to be told and spread to all corners of the World. Tell it where you go with the familiar question, "Did you know…?"
