DISCIPLINE

Discipline is not a word we really like to hear.  It brings to mind pain and, perhaps, punishment.  While this may be true, there is another side to discipline: the focused effort we need to move forward toward a goal.  This kind of discipline is perhaps self-imposed because of inward motivation.

We have been studying the spiritual disciplines.  We, as God's children, need to be transformed into the image of Jesus.  Paul says we are ever being changed or transformed into his likeness (1 Corinthians 3:18).

How does that happen?  When the Holy Spirit is involved I don't think we can map out the process exactly.  But, being in Yahweh's (God's) presence did change Moses.

We do not transform ourselves.  God must do that.  The disciplines are some of the ways that I keep myself turned toward God, focused on God, staying in his presence.

Woodlawn, as a church, wants to live for the glory of God.  We can and will as we first begin to reflect his glory by living in his presence.  The discipline is my part and the transformation is his.

Dear Woodlawn Family,
Thank you for remembering us during this time, the loss of my sister, Kathryn Moore.  Your cards and expressions of sympathy are a great comfort to us.  We appreciate the pretty plant as well.  God Bless You All.
     In Christian Love,
     Bettie Galaway & family

My Woodlawn family made me feel so special during my recent knee-replacement surgery.  THANKS for all the visits, cards, goodies and, especially, your prayers.  Jaylene and I feel so blessed to be part of this family!
     Bart Crisman

Dear Woodlawn Family,
My family and I wish to thank you for the many prayers, visits, generous delicious food, house check, mail delivery, laundry taken care of, light bulbs replaced, filters cleaned and so many acts of love.  It has been a great comfort and made this easier to bear - so many listening ears.
     Ethel Waldrip

I would like to thank all the ladies at Woodlawn for making the pies for the Women For ACU Scholarship fund raiser.  The weather did hinder the project this year; therefore, many of the pies were sold whole on Wednesday night for $10 each.  Thanks for all your hard work and willingness to serve in so many ways.  Woodlawn contributed 28 pies.  WOW!
God Bless You Now and Always

Announcements

Woodlawn Bible Bowl Team - FIRST AGAIN!
Tyler Sparks amazed the 250+ participants at the Mountain States Bible Bowl by not missing a single question all day.  We left with a team of three (since Aaron Sparks couldn’t make the trip) and picked up another team’s alternate member, who ended up being an awesome player.  Joshua Alkire missed only four questions, and Josh Pangburn had an 88.  WAY TO GO, GUYS!
Thank you, Clyde Foster, for driving and Sharon Shipman for coming to support us!
     Dixie Mabry, coach

ANOTHER BAPTISM!
We received an email from Penang that in addition to Kelly Khoo, Kin also baptized Cathy Cangco, a Filipino lady, last Sunday.  She had been attending the Lau’s regular Friday night Bible study.  We rejoice with the Penang family.

We are SO SAD to learn of the impending departure of two of our families. Mike and Patty Galaway will be moving to Nashville on March 15. AND Johnny, Missy & Patrick Tharp will move to Midland on March 20. We want to wish both families God’s speed with a Farewell Gathering for both families after church Wednesday night, March 12th. Money Trees have been started. Please give your gifts of love to Abby Longley or Karen Griffith.

Support the Woodlawn Youth! Several members have asked how they can help the teenagers. Praise the Lord! If you would like to help financially, now is a great time. The Spring Retreat is coming up soon and there are teens who would like to go, but can’t afford it. If you’d like to help, please give your donations to Elijah or Barbara.

THINK! Apple juice for the orphans - bring it in March. Apple juice for the orphans - bring it in March. (Repeat during daylight hours while at the grocery store.)
