WOODLAWN CAMPUS MINISTRY

What’s been happening lately in the Woodlawn Campus Ministry?  Actually, quite a bit.  God has faithfully answered our prayers for more student and young adult Bible studies.  Fridays, I have had the blessing of studying with Marcus Sanchez through the book of Hebrews and Wednesdays, a group of 7 of us are studying through the Gospel of Luke.  I am also very proud of our college students who have dedicated the first weekend of each month to our Doulos Saturday ("service" Saturday).  With their energy and enthusiasm, we were able to help Steve Smith work on the John & Gregoria Moreno’s home and, two weeks ago, help Helena Orr move.

Sunday mornings, Troy Gailey and I have been team-teaching through a series on the Old Testament’s enduring message of God’s covenant love.  The goal is simple: to get us all digging more into God’s word, and specifically, the Old Testament.  And, of course, Carla & Shane Copher have continued to do a remarkable job at organizing our Adopt-a-Student Program.

Please be prayerful for a number of upcoming activities, including SNL this Sunday night at the Mabry’s (February 16) and the annual 24-Hour Prayer Vigil (March 21-22), our Spring Retreat with Hillcrest, University, & Minter Lane (April 11-13).

Yours for Him,
Dwayne

PRAYER CONCERNS

Bart Crisman – Hendrick 6625 (came through Wednesday knee surgery very well)

Yvonne Lee had successful surgery Monday to repair a hernia.  We thank God our prayers were answered concerning her cancer tumor.  Tests show that it has shrunk and will not have to be removed at this time.  Doctors will keep a close watch on it.

Bobbie Chew’s biopsy has been postponed until March 13.  If it still can’t be done with a needle by then, she will have to have surgery.

We continue to remember Martha Lee Hancock whose mother, Louise Dart, is in Hospice Care at HHS.  It is requested that she not have visitors.

THANKS

Dear Woodlawn Family,
Thank you for the beautiful plant after the loss of Charles’ sister, Christie.  We appreciate your love and concern.
     With Love,
     Charles and Frances Copher

To the Woodlawn church,
I want to thank you for the prayers, cards of encouragement, sweet valentines, and your many acts of kindness.
     Your sister in Christ,
     Pauline Rushing

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ladies are asked again to help with the WACU Lectureship pie booth during the upcoming Bible Lectureship, February 23-26.  Please contact Hazel Fillmon (677-1160) if you will furnish two (2) baked pies for Sunday, February 23.  Proceeds go to the WACU endowed scholarship fund for students.  (No cream pies, please.  Pecan or fruit are best.)

A Successful Stepfamilies Workshop will be held at the Southern Hill church Sunday, Feb. 23 from 5 to 7 p.m.  There is no fee but you need to register by Feb. 20 by calling 692-2670.  See details on the wall in the foyer.

All are invited to attend the World Humanitarian and Relief Conference this coming Saturday and Sunday.  Ten humanitarian organizations representing our fellowship are hosting the conference, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday afternoon, 2 until 5:30.  It is to evaluate and demonstrate how humanitarian aid to the poor and needy opens hearts to the Gospel of Christ.  See the program on the bulletin board in the foyer. (HealingHands)

Ladies, please remember to fill out and return your service volunteer forms.

Please pick up dishes returned from the Waldrip’s house and also from the last funeral.

PLAN AHEAD!  We will be collecting apple juice for Medina Children’s Home in March.  Get it on sale and bring it any time.  It will be picked up the first week in April.

MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
A group of 35 young ladies from Lubbock Christian University will be having a retreat at Woodlawn Friday through Sunday, Feb. 21-23.  We are needing additional housing for them Friday and Saturday night and a couple of simple breakfasts.  If you can help at all, or have any questions, please contact Dwayne Hilty at worship services, call the church office at 673-6776 or contact him in the evenings at 672-5679.
