We would like to tell you one of the children’s favorite stories.

ONCE there was a man who was trying to pull a huge turnip out of his garden.  He pulled and pulled and then he called to his wife for help.  “My wife, please come and help me pull this turnip,” said the man.  She grabbed his waist and they started to pull the turnip, but it would not budge.  The man called to his father.  “Father, will you please come help us pull this turnip?” the man said.  Grandpa came to help and grabbed his daughter-in-law’s waist.  They pulled and pulled but they needed more help.  They called for grandmother, and she came to help them.  Four people pulled that turnip but it did not move an inch.  They called to their teenage son and daughter; surely their help would be enough.  It was not.  They called to their neighbors; a strong young man and his wife.  They offered their help.  Now, eight people pulled on that big turnip.  It would not move; not to the left and not to the right.  Then, the young couple’s small child came over and asked if he could help.  The man said, “All of us have tried to pull this turnip out of the ground and failed.  I suppose we could try again.”  Everyone and the small child pulled and the turnip came out.

The turnip is the world, and we must work together from old to young to pull friends into the church.  We might try and try, but don’t give up, continue to ask your neighbors and friends to church.  Let us work together in this New Year to grow and accomplish as much as we can for the Lord.  His help makes our work lighter and give our hearts great joy.

A blessed New Year to us all,
Karen, Kathy and the Kids.
